Regional Self Advocacy

Do you know what self advocacy is?

Shell Williams - Self advocacy group member and All Wales People First National Representative

"If I let people know what I want, then I can have more control in my life. If I have a voice, it means other people know what I want to do.

When I started to speak out, I found it hard at first and I was nervous but I am more confident now.I want to be as independent as I can be."

Why is it important?

  • Equality and Quality of Life

Everyone should expect to have good services and know it's ok to speak up if something is not right.

  • It can make things better!
For you and for other’s and create change.

  • Well being and Mental Health
Feeling connected to the world around you, empowered and in control, builds confidence and self esteem.

What can I do?

  • Think about what you want and need in your life

  • Tell people around you about your wants and needs

  • Ask for help from friends, family, professionals and organisation

  • Ask questions about your rights

  • Find a local Self-Advocacy group to join

  • Set up your own Self-Advocacy group
